What is the limitation period for a suit on a promissory note in Pakistan?

Under Article 69 of the Limitation Act 1908, the limitation period for a suit on a promissory note payable at a fixed time after date is 3 years, starting from when the note falls due. For a promissory note payable on demand (Article 73), the 3-year period runs from the date of the note.

What is the limitation period for property disputes in Pakistan?

It depends on the type of property suit. Suit for possession of immovable property under Article 142 has a 12-year limitation from the date of dispossession. Suit for trespass compensation under Article 39 is 3 years. Mortgage redemption under Article 148 is 30 years.

Can limitation be condoned in Pakistan?

Section 5 of the Limitation Act 1908 allows condonation of delay for appeals and applications only, not for suits. The applicant must show sufficient cause for the delay. Section 14 excludes time spent in good-faith proceedings in a wrong court.
