One finished document. Every petition, affidavit, notice, agreement, compiled briefing, or reviewer report you generate is one instrument. Editing, downloading, saving to Desk, or sharing it again costs nothing. Only generation is counted.
Your allowance resets every 30 days, not on the first of the calendar month. A four month contract is four such cycles, and the reset date follows the day you activated.
Unused instruments do not vanish at the end of a cycle. Half of what you leave unused rolls into your next cycle within the contract, and up to 100 carry into your next contract when you renew in time.
Extra instruments we may add to your account, for example to make good on a problem. They never expire, and they work whether you hold a complimentary account or a membership.
The case-law database, statutes, practice rules, glossary, and legal calculators are presently made available to complimentary account holders on an introductory basis. Full ongoing access is reserved for paid members. Legalise reserves the right to revise access to these reference modules in subsequent instrument cycles. Research Lab is not part of that arrangement: it carries a stated inquiry allowance on both tiers, set out above. Notice will be provided to active members in advance of any change.
Direct transfer to a verified Legalise wallet. Submit transaction reference to activate. No card processing fees.
A complimentary account is a full evaluation of the platform, with no clock running against it. The retainer is the upgrade for a working chamber: more instruments, more Desk folders, and allowance that carries forward.

An instrument is one output generated through Legalise. A petition, application, affidavit, notice, agreement, compiled case briefing, Matter Reviewer report or Adverse Reviewer report counts as one instrument against your cycle allowance. Editing a saved document, downloading it again, storing it at Desk, or sharing it does not consume an instrument. Only the act of generation is counted. A Research Lab inquiry is not an instrument and is counted separately, as Q.05 sets out.
Your four month contract runs as four 30-day instrument cycles. At the end of each one, half of any instruments you did not use carry into the next cycle and are added to its 120 allowance.
When you renew, unused instruments carry into your next contract up to a maximum of 100. Renew within the seven day grace period after your contract ends; renew later and the balance is forfeited and a fresh allowance begins.
Enrolling converts the account to the four month retainer at once. A complimentary account has no time limit and nothing expires while it sits unused, so there is no deadline to enroll against; the 10 instrument cap is simply replaced with the full 120 instrument allowance from the moment of paid activation. Unused complimentary instruments do not carry over. Nobody is penalised for enrolling early.
No. There are two separate allowances and they do not share a pool. Drafting instruments cover the documents you generate, the briefings you compile and the reviews you run. Research Lab inquiries are counted on their own: a paid membership carries 180 of them every 30-day instrument cycle, alongside its 120 instruments, and a complimentary account carries 12 alongside its 10. Asking Research Lab never uses a drafting instrument, and drafting never uses a research inquiry.
Refund requests are considered within the first month of the four month contract only, and only where fewer than one third of the cycle’s instruments (i.e. less than 40 of 120) have been generated. Beyond the first month, or after the one third usage threshold is crossed, the retainer is non-refundable.
Stated price is inclusive of applicable charges. A payment confirmation is emailed to the member once the transfer is verified and the membership is active. It carries the payment reference and the date the membership runs until, in a form suitable for chamber expense records.
The retainer runs for its full four month term. Members may decline renewal at any point. Cancellation does not trigger a refund outside the conditions above. No automatic re-billing. Renewal is a deliberate act by the member within the seven day grace window.
